A Message from the Chairs
December 2010
It is hard to believe that 25 years ago we had a vision to create a "black tie" event for the area to raise money in support of the American Heart Association. At that time it was regarded as a crazy idea that wouldn't appeal to many in Southern Delaware. That first year we raised just over $10,000 net to further the mission of fighting heart disease and stroke. Over the years Kent and Sussex counties have hosted individual Galas and now we have joined together to form the 2011 Southern Delaware Heart & Stroke Gala.
The level of commitment our volunteers and sponsors display sets this event apart from all others in the region. Each year we welcome new individual and corporate sponsors to our family of supporters adding to our solid foundation of repeat donors. Throughout the years our supporters have become friends and neighbors helping to fight a common enemy- heart disease and stroke- the #1 and #3 leading cause of death and disability of all walks of life.
Long recognized as the premier black-tie event in Southern Delaware- we hope the 2011 Heart and Stroke Gala will surpass all others by raising an impressive net of $225,000! Our mission is still to fight the #1 and #3 killers (heart disease and stroke) in America today. We are fighting for healthier children who will grow to be healthier adults. We are fighting to reduce deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20% and to improve the cardiovascular health of all Delawareans by 20% by the year 2020.
There are several ways you can support the cause- please check out the sponsorship tab or the You're the Heart tab while you are visiting the website- your valuable contribution will make a difference!
We look forward to seeing you at this magical event to be held at the Sheraton Dover Hotel- Saturday, March 19, 2011- and of course we sincerely appreciate your consideration and generocity.
Best regards,
Tonda and Joe Parks
